Agile Portugal 2011. June 20-22

Golden Ticket Contests

We’re pleased to announce the Agile Portugal 2011 Golden Ticket contests! We challenge you to prove that you’re a true agile developer. Shoot a photo about your workplace, methods, team, etc. showing how agile (and creative) you can be!

This year, we’ll have two contests with similar rules — one for our facebook page fans and another for our twitter followers.

On facebook

On twitter

a) Shoot a photo; a) Shoot a photo;
b) Post the photo directly to our wall
(don’t forget to add an appealing caption);
b) Tweet it with the #agilept and #goldenticket hashtags;
c) Get the highest number of likes; c) Get the highest number of retweets;
d) Profit! d) Profit!

How will you determine the winners?

A ticket will be awarded to the picture with most likes in facebook and another to the photo with the highest number of retweets on twitter. We’ll accept photos until the 7th of June. Check back on the 8th for the results.

Can I participate on both contests?

Sure :)

What does it cover?

This is a ticket for the two main conference days, 21st and 22nd of June.

Where exactly do I post a photo to enter the facebook contest?

Go to our wall on facebook, and use the option Photo → Upload a Photo.

What if…?

In the unlikely event of a tie, the organizers will choose the winning picture.

If you are the winner but for some reason won’t be able to use the ticket, you can give it to your best friend, or donate it back to Agile Portugal, and we will award it to the second best picture in the same social network.

In the case you are one of the big winners but have already registered, you’ll still be able to use the golden ticket. We will issue you a reimbursement.

Is the ticket actually made of gold?

Not likely..

Something is still not clear to me

If you have any doubts, please contact us to the address chairs@agilept.org.

Let the photo shooting begin. Good Luck!

Update: Made it clearer how to enter the facebook-flavored Golden Ticket Contest.

Lightning-talks submission is still open

The period for submitting lightning-talks was extended until the day of the conference. You will be able to submit your lightning-talk for as long as we have slots available on the program. Please note though, that you will be able to improve your submission by considering the feedback you get from reviewers, but that will only be possible if you submit until the 5th of June.

Want to inspire others to follow you? Or maybe share your experience, or an idea? We are waiting for your lightning-talk!

New Tutorial and new Talks

Yesterday we have made available yet another high-grade tutorial. Mike Beedle, one of our keynote speakers, will give a full day class on Scrum!

There are also more details about two invited talks, one by Eduardo Guerra, which will tell us about how to refactor test code, and another by Allen Wirfs-Brock, who will tell us about the changes we can expect from web technologies in the coming years.

And the first set of confirmed accepted submissions is finally here. Check their titles on the program page. More details will be available soon, as speakers improve their talks and lightning-talks.

Venue Information

We have made available some information about the city of Port, the conference venue, and accommodation options. We advise you too book accommodation as early as possible, as it is frequent for hotels to be full around the 23rd and 24th of June due to the city’s festivities.

Registrations Are Now Open

Registrations are finally open, and definite prices set. Check the registrations page for full instructions on how to register for the 2011 edition of the Agile Portugal conference.

As registrations are opening later than initially anticipated, the early registration period is being extended to the 20th of May. But act quickly to benefit from the super-early rate. Only a very limited number of super-early tickets will be made available.

We are anticipating a great program. Even though accepted session proposals will only be known in a few days, you can already count with an excellent set of invited speakers. This year we are working to bring you a set of remarkably high quality tutorials for the first day of the conference, with more to be confirmed soon.

Sessions Added to the Program

There’s new info on some of this year’s invited sessions.

We are very happy to count with the presence of Mike Beedle, entrepreneur and co-author of the agile manifesto. Mike’s keynote will be on Enterprise Scrum.

Also, three tutorials are already confirmed:

You might also have noticed that Lachlan Heasman is no longer on our speaker’s page. Due to unexpected constraints, he will not be able to join us this year after all. But stay tuned, as more speakers will be confirmed soon.

Submission Extended to May 5th

By request of some, the submission deadline will be postponed by some days. You can now submit your session proposal until the 5th of May.

If you use a calendaring app (like Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple’s iCal), you can subscribe to the Agile Portugal 2011 iCal, and be always aware of the most important conference dates and related events.

Tickets and Prices

The prices for the conference were just made available. Additional information on how to register will also be made available very soon, so stay close to ensure you get a ticket from the first batch, and benefit from the Super Early fees.

Date for the First Porto Agile Meetup

The first Porto Agile Meetup will likely be on the 14th April. Tell us your preference, so that we can set the definite date and time.

This might be the last post about the meetups you see on this conference blog, as they have just earned a wiki-based space for themselves (in Portuguese). If you like the idea of having Agile Meetups, but wish they were held closer to you, please don’t hesitate to organize your own gathering using the wiki.

Follow further announcements and discussion through linkedin, facebook and twitter.

Confirmed International Speakers

We’ve just published info on some of the invited speakers for this year’s conference. Mike Beedle and Rebecca Wirfs-Brock will be our keynote speakers, with two inspiring talks. And we are expecting a few more speaker confirmations to come really soon, stay tuned!
