Program
Agile Portugal 2011 offers a varied program, with Tutorials, Keynotes, Talks, Lightning-Talks and lively Open Space sessions. Also, don’t miss the conference dinner, that will provide participants more chances to network and discuss with fellow community members.
This schedule is still preliminary, and will be adjusted and completed as more sessions get confirmed. You are still in time to submit a lightning-talk.

Lightning talks
If you have something to share about agility (ideas, fears, questions, concerns, etc), please promote a lightning-talk. These are quick (7min) presentations, that will provide you with immediate feedback from the audience.
- Applying Agile Methods in Software Engineering Education
António Candeias and Fernando Almeida - Architectural Value in Agile Projects – A Tale of Two Paths
Manuel Pais
Open Space
In addition to the scheduled sessions, Open Space sessions will take place throughout all the conference, providing a live and flexible place to share questions, talk to the experts, demonstrate software and techniques, and experiment with Agile practices and ideas. Its schedule will be defined during the conference, by you and the other participants, and will be continuously evolved as new topics emerge during the event.
Sessions are not meant to be formal, like the ones on the program — anyone can convene a session at the Open Space based on a passion and a commitment to make the session happen. Walk away with valuable new insights into topics that are relevant to you today.
Retrospective
Teams that strive to improve need to accurately find and fix on-going problems. Agile retrospectives help teams to assess what went right and what went wrong on any project; iteratively and incrementally.
The retrospective by the end of the first day of Agile Portugal will help us examine what is working and what is not, thus assisting us on improving the ongoing conference. Day 2 will undoubtedly become much better thanks to everyone’s feedback.
Panel
Join us in a Fishbowl Panel, where conference speakers and participants have a spirited debate around the topic …
10 years after the Agile Manifesto… where are we now?
Joe Yoder, Dave Thomas, Rebecca Wirfs-Brock, Allen Wirfs-Brock, Mike Beedle
As Agile practices have matured over the last 10 years, it has become less radical and more mainstream. Agile has been successfully used on small, medium and large projects, and even on mission critical systems. Still, Agile hasn’t displaced more traditional software development practices. Should it? There are still many challenges with adopting agile practices more broadly. For example, how can we use agile for framework development, how does agile work for distributed teams and very large projects or programs, and what are good agile design and architecture practices? This panel will discuss what we have learned from adapting and adopting agile practices over the last 10 years and what major challenges lie ahead.
